Inside Malden: A talk show and blog that introduces Malden to itself.
Inside Malden offers introspective conversations with Malden change-makers. The monthly episodes air the stories and perspectives of local thought leaders, artists, musicians, scientists, activists, writers, etc. who live or work in Malden. The shows are available by cable TV, streaming video, or podcast.
Why Inside Malden?
Many of us believe Malden has the potential to be a model city. Having become a home to immigrants from around the world, our city holds a wide cultural and linguistic mix of residents and professionals. This diversity combined with an interesting history and geography, artistic presence, high tech and international business influx, popular restaurants, proximity to Boston, boom in building, and grassroots movements make it a dynamic and appealing place to live and work.
Nigerian writer, Chris Abani, puts it perfectly when he says that, “what we know about how to be who we are” comes from stories. And for Malden to be what it can be, it must give voice to its stories. To answer this call to the telling of stories from inside Malden, a group of people with a similar vision have come together to create a unique multimedia platform inspired by the radio show, On Being, an award winning broadcast, podcast, and website produced and hosted by Krista Tippett, who is known for “thoughtfully delving into the mysteries of human existence.” The show offers cross-disciplinary conversations that feel intimate and compassionate as they enlighten.
What is the Vision?
Working from this model, Inside Malden, the latest Neighborhood View offering, aims to provide a platform for stories and ideas that inspire and enlighten. The hope is that new connections, collaborations, projects, further explorations, and the honing of a collective imagination for what Malden is and can be, will emerge.
